You and 90ways Bought a Water Buffalo
Update!
This week we sent our check to Heifer to buy one water buffalo! Thanks to all who chipped in. We're keeping our fingers crossed that we get a picture of our WB. We'll keep you posted.
...
90ways wants to counter holiday sales and buying binges with some sharing. We're feeling very Care Bears this year. Too often the simple, plain idea of giving gets lost amidst all the baggage of this month. We want to do something with you, our beloved readers, to give a year that has been full of global challenge and adversity, a hopeful, happy coda.
We turn for help to
Heifer International. Heifer gives livestock to those who need it. Better than any static gift of food or money, an animal produces byproducts and young, creating even more animals for the community. We think Heifer is an organization absolutely on the right track, striving to provide self-reliance, not band-aids. We want in.
We have perused their catalogue (What's not to love about a publication with a cover photo of Walter Cronkite holding a sheep?) and set our sights on a
water buffalo. "A water buffalo," Heifer tells us, "is like a cow, but more suited to the climate in Asia. They are strong animals, but surprisingly gentle." We like that. That sounds good to us.
The water buffalo is also well beyond our means alone. You may have noticed 90ways is not a profit making enterprise and the water buffalo is one of the more generous animals in the Heifer catalog. We must raise $250 to give the gift of a water buffalo. We, the editors, have got things started with $60. Now we ask you to help 90ways buy and give a water buffalo. Only $190 more to go.
We're taking all the support you have to give. If we fall short of our goal, Heifer provides a number of cheaper options. If we exceed it, perhaps we can throw in some honeybees. But we want that water buffalo. We want someone in Asia in need of strength, gentleness, and protein-rich milk to have that water buffalo. Please email us at
comments@90ways.com to let us know how much you can give and to learn how to get in on the water buffalo action.
